Fan-free operation for upgraded Toronto terminal

Belgravium has upgraded the Toronto 9000 truck-mounted terminal it launched last year, introducing fan-less operation.

The new version is manufactured in rugged die-cast aluminium, which is said to help the unit dissipate heat and hence obviate the need for a fan. This means the unit needs no ventilation holes - something that has no doubt helped it achieve its high ingress protection rating of IP65/NEMA4.

The new version supports a wider range of operating systems than its predecessor - notably both Windows CE and Windows XP, as well as Windows 98 and 2000 and Linux. The main processor is a VIA EDEN low-power 800MHz unit.

Features include a 10.4-inch colour LCD display with optional touch-screen interface, and both wireless and wide-area networks with its expansion capabilities. Support is available for Wi-Fi wireless networking, WLAN, GPS, GSM and GPRS.

Other connectivity features include Ethernet, USB 2.0 and PS/2 for mouse and keyboard operation. The unit runs from mains or battery power.

  • Home shopping giant Grattan is the first customer for the revised Toronto 9000. It has taken 18 units for mounting in man-rider cranes at a major 180,000 sq ft warehouse.
