Secure mobile access via VPN
If you have a range of mobile devices deployed among your workforce, and want to control the remote data and applications that they can access, a new solution using the conventions of the VPN (virtual private network) and SSL (Secure Socket Layer) has been developed by VPN specialist Aventail. Aventail claims that it is the only supplier offering a single gateway and a common management and user experience for all devices, whether a home PC, laptop, kiosk or mobile device.ÊAccess varies according to the type of device and permissions granted to each user. To illustrate how this works, the company cites the example of a smartphone user, who would be give access Outlook Mobile Access and not to Outlook Web Access, which they would receive if at a kiosk or home PC. Aventail Mobile supports all major operating systems, including Blackberry, Palm, Windows Mobile, DoCoMo and Symbian.
