If you need to know how fast traffic flows on any given section of road in the UK, you might appreciate an upgrade in the unique GB Speeds map database from MapMechanics. This links millions of real-life sampled road speeds captured by ITIS, the traffic information specialist, with specific sections of road, and also provides an index of traffic volumes (from 1 to 16). Now MapMechanics has doubled the number of GPS-based samples (up to 2 billion, in fact), providing a much more reliable and statistically robust product.

The data is supplied as standard with Navteq digital map data, but is now said to be easier to transpose on to other map databases according to user requirements.
