Versatile GPS for your satnav
You may not have given much thought to what GPS unit you should use to get the best out of a PDA-based satellite navigation system; but if not, one that you should probably consider is the new GH-101 from Globalsat, a GPS specialist. There are several versions for different PDAs, including one for O2's XDA range. The device comes integrated with a versatile 18in mounting arm, with provision for your PDA to be inserted into it. Features include GPS antenna, telescopic side arms, volume control, external antenna port, infra-red option and short-circuit protection. In terms of specification, the device uses the sensitive Sirf Star II GPS chipset, which is said to work well in with a range of navigation software. Amplified sound is fed to integrated loudspeakers with fully adjustable volume control. The unit allows for simultaneous GPS power supply and charging of a PDA from a vehicle's cigarette lighter socket.
The device is available through EasyDevices.co.uk, a PDA accessories specialist.
