Bluetooth plug and play scanner
The latest in the line of compact cordless scanners from French manufacturer Baracoda is the Baracoda RoadRunner, a Bluetooth scanner intended for both mobile applications and warehouse operations. The key to the appeal is that these scanners are supposed to integrate readily with existing systems without the need to load dedicated software. Instead they rely on a system called Plug & Scan. The company says this allows them to integrate instantly with other solutions by means of a Bluetooth-compatible USB or RS232 "dongle". The new range is said to have a range of about 100 metres. Baracoda reckons the weight, shape and battery life of RoadRunners make them suitable for a range of mobile uses such as parcel management, asset monitoring, maintenance and marketing, as well as for more conventional warehousing and distribution activities. There are two models in the range - the CMOS 1D Linear, with a scanning distance from 5cm to 50cm, and the 2D Imager, with a scanning distance from 5cm to 33cm. They are offered complete with a range of accessories, including a PDA stylus and car charger. Prices start at 645 euros.
