Handheld debut from LXE

LXE has added a new wireless handheld computer to its growing MX range. The MX7 follows the classic form factor of the combined computer/scanner, with full alphabetic keyboard and optional pistol grip, but bristles with modern technology. How you use it is up to you, by LXE is pushing it particularly for warehousing and distribution centre applications.

The operating system is the latest Windows CE 5.0, and the processor is the Intel XScale PXA255 running at 400MHz. You get 128MB of SDRAM as standard, plus 128MB of flash on an SD card. The colour display is a bright 3.5in TFT VGA.

The unit's multi-range scanning capabilities allow barcode reads from 4in to 40ft, and there's a "good scan" vibrator system built in.

Wireless 802.11.b/g connectivity is built in as standard, and there is an option for Bluetooth networking as well. Operating temperature is down to minus 10 deg C.

The MX7 also incorporates LXE's ToughTalk technology, which includes advanced audio circuitry and noise cancelling techniques, and allows the unit to support industrial-grade voice recognition applications at the same time as traditional barcode scanning.
