Paragon and Masternaut link up in dynamic scheduling system
True dynamic routing and scheduling is now available from Paragon Software Systems through a link with the Web-based tracking system of Masternaut. It aims to allow operators to compare actual vehicle movements with the planned schedule and route, and make changes to reflect on-the-ground delivery progress through the day. Through Paragon's Fleet Controller module, live data from Masternaut's satellite-based tracking service is picked up automatically by the Paragon software. This gives transport planners an up-to-date picture of the execution of the day's transport schedule. The system alerts transport planners if a vehicle has fallen behind schedule, missed a call or deviated significantly from the planned route. The thinking is that if a driver is likely to miss a delivery time window, the problem can be dealt with before it has a knock-on effect on the rest of the schedule. Fleet Controller can also send automatic text messages or email alerts to customers when their delivery is a given number of minutes away. Dynamic scheduling is thought by many to be the next logical step in the evolution of both routing/scheduling and tracking systems. Although it relies on the means for vehicles to be diverted or otherwise utilised effectively in the event of delay, it still offers users the opportunity to alert customers and others to delays, and to re-schedule deliveries earlier.
