Portable tracking from Police5
Seen here in our picture is the Eye-TraX Portable self-contained tracking unit from telematics specialist Police5. It's been out for a while, but we haven't featured it in m.logistics before, and we think it's rather neat. It's a fully self-contained unit, and comes with back-up power supply, GPS and GPRS antennae, a driver-operated on-off switch and an alert button. It's normally powered via the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket, but the company says it can be adapted to sit more permanently in a dashboard-mounted cradle. It's even available in a choice of colours - silver aluminium or matt black. Information is viewed by the operator via an Internet browser, which allows password-protected access from any Internet-enabled PC or PDA. The company says the system has already proved popular with operators who frequently employ agency drivers, or whose own drivers often switch vehicles.
