Tough on the ocean
Toughbook laptop computers by Panasonic will form part of the everyday experience of Dee Caffari, the British sailor who embarked on a solo round-the-world voyage on 20 November on board the 72ft Aviva Challenge. She is aiming to become the first woman to sail solo, non-stop around the world against the prevailing winds and currents - a trip that could take four to five months. Dee will be using two Toughbook CF-29 laptops - one to act as a communications tool, the other for electronic charting. She also has a Toughbook CF-W2 semi-ruggedised notebook PC as a spare. Panasonic has provided a range of other equipment such as three video cameras and a portable DVD player for entertainment.
