Dot.Net handhelds from Datalogic
A new range of ruggedised handheld computer/scanner systems running under the .NET version of Windows CE has been launched by Datalogic under the brand name Kyman-Net. Mobile applications such as parcel delivery and field force automation are among the targets markets cited by the company, which claims they are the lightest in their class (weights of 540kg to 570kg are quoted). The Kyman is one of the style of handheld with extended keyboard under the display screen. A full 53-key alphabetic keyboard is one option; a 36-key version is the alternative. The display is a reflective 3.5 in TFT daylight-readable unit with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution, although terminal emulation mode is also one of the suggested ways of using the unit. Packed under the skin is a laser scanner/image scanner engine capable of reading most standard barcode, two-dimensional and RFID codes. Also available are Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GSM/GPRS wireless connectivity. The operating system is Windows CE.Net 4.2, the processor is an Intel XScale 400MHz unit and the memory includes 64 or 128MB of RAM and 64MB of flash. There are also SD and CompactFlash slots for memory expansion. The units are sealed to IP64 standard for water and dust resistance, and are said to have been tested to withstand drops from 1.5 metres.
