A range of added-value features is built into a new dedicated navigation system from Korean-based Globalsat, which has been launched on the UK market by Easydevices, the satnav specialist.

The GV-201 comes in a landscape-format housing, which incorporates a 320x240 colour TFT LCD touch screen display. It runs under the Microsoft Windows CE.Net 4.2 operating system, and has a Samsung 266Mhz microprocessor, along with 64MB of system memory and 32MB of flash memory.

There are also CompactFlash and SD card slots, and a 512MB card is supplied as standard with European digital mapping on board.

Navigation is provided by on-board Netropa navigation software from US-based IntelliNav, while GPS location is handled by the SiRFstarIII high sensitivity GPS chipset and built-in antenna. A quick-removal vehicle mount is supplied.

Go beyond the navigation functions, and you find that the GV-201 comes ready-equipped to work as an MP3 audio player, MP4 video player and photo viewer. And there's an optional built-in hands-free Bluetooth phone capability, so if you connect it to your mobile phone, you can use it with that.

You can even opt to include a low-range FM transmitter to send your audio to a compatible in-car audio system.
