Web tablet extends Belgravium range

An attractive tablet PC called the Tokyo Web Tablet has been launched by Belgravium, broadening out still further its increasingly extensive range of hardware solutions for mobile computing. It is seen as suitable for a variety of applications, from field service and transport to healthcare, hospitality and retailing.

Unusually in a world dominated by Intel processors, the Tokyo features an AMD microprocessor - the GX, which operates up speeds of to 400MHz. AMD ratings are however not necessarily directly comparable to Intel's.

Belgravium is offering a choice of operating systems, including Windows CE 5.0 .Net, embedded Windows XP and Windows XP Professional. Embedded Linux is a further option. In making your choice, you need to bear in mind that this is not a hard-disk PC; it uses solid-state memory. The specification includes between 128MB and 256 MB of SDRAM and 64 MB to 4GB of flash Memory.

The display is an 8.4 "high-brightness" TFT touch screen with a full 800x600 pixel resolution. There are four bezel-mounted buttons, although in mobile use input is likely to be by means of a stylus. But a USB keyboard is also available.

Reflecting its versatility, the Tokyo can have a variety of connectivity options, including Type II PCMCIA card, CompactFlash card and internal mini-PCI card. Wireless options are also varied, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The Tokyo measures 200 by 240mm, and weights about 860g. Cradles for static and vehicle mounting are available.
