Dual Core processor for Panasonics Toughbook
Intel's Dual Core processor technology has been harnessed for the latest version of Panasonic's Toughbook rugged laptop computer range, which also gains more advanced wireless connectivity and a brighter screen. At the heart of the CF-74, which is the successor to the CF-73, is a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo Processor, the T2400, which should help enhance performance, especially with complex applications and on multi-tasking activities. The wireless features include integrated WLAN, GPRS/EDGE and Bluetooth, all of which can be used simultaneously. With an optional integrated GPRS/EDGE module, the PCMCIA/express card slot stays freely configurable. To ensure maximum viewing of the screen in all operating environments, the display brightness has been increased to 540 cd/m sq, and an extra anti-reflex coating has been added to improve readability.
In a useful energy-saving measure, the WLAN connection can be switched off at the touch of a button. Other features include 512MB of RAM and an 80GB hard disk. The CF-74 comes in a robust magnesium alloy casing, and has a splashproof keyboard and touchpad. The hard disk is said to have been tested for resistance to shocks and vibrations and to being dropped up to 30cm. The recommended list price for all this is £2089.
