McPhillips tracks with Transcomm
Civil engineering contractor McPhillips has chosen the Trackit Fleet solution from Transcomm UK to enhance the efficiency of its 60-strong vehicle fleet in the North and West Midlands. Its objectives are to reduce operating costs, increase asset security and provide customers with a more streamlined and efficient service. The Trackit Fleet system will be using both historical and real-time location data to allow McPhillips managers to see the location of employees on its numerous civil engineering projects. The company says this will provide quicker, more accurate job costing information, as well as reducing unauthorised use of vehicles and facilitating compliance with the EU working time directive and duty of care legislation. The solution should also provide McPhillips with comprehensive real-time asset information. In addition to providing enhanced security, this is expected to help them to despatch conveniently-located fitters to a breakdown and get vehicles and plant back into service quickly. According to commercial director Gerald Clift: "We considered other fleet management products, but they did not offer the service we were seeking." He adds: "The flexibility of Trackit also means that we can easily add extra functionality such as new vehicle diagnostics technology, differentiating us from our competitors quickly and effectively." Transcomm nowadays forms a division of the BT redcare Group.
