Navteq completes west European coverage
Navteq has announced that it has completed the process of digitising the road system of the whole of Western Europe. Its maps now cover 6.5 million kilometres of road network in 20 countries, extending from northern Norway down to Gibraltar and from Ireland to Bulgaria and the Black Sea. The maps of this area are also said to include over a million points of interest. Each road segment features up to 160 attributes. Navteq is one of the leading providers of digital mapping for navigation products and geographic information systems. It also supplies maps of Eastern Europe, North America and other areas. The Chicago-based company has 1,900 staff, including 300 "geographic analysts" creating its maps at local level.
