The wide-ranging deployment of mobile computing solutions is making remote device management a challenge for more and more IT managers - prompting the hardware manufacturers to put increasing efforts into finding solutions.

Hand Held Products is among the latest to announce a development in this field, coming up with two related products for users. One is called Mobile Systems Manager, a software-based, centralised solution intended to allow users to manage its Dolphin mobile computers remotely.

The other is the Power Tools suite, a set of software utilities that are said to simplify development, deployment and management of Dolphin applications, either in conjunction with other applications or standalone on Dolphin terminals.

The company says the Power Tools suite provides customers with a wide range of important features such as device information retrieval, user interface customisation and network "pinging".

It is also said to provide easy access to barcode data from a remote location. And in addition, there are utilities for application launch management and device configuration and deployment.
