Army chooses RTL for tank transporter safety system
The British Army has chosen RTL, a UK-based vehicle telematics systems and consultancy services provider, to install a collision warning system in its fleet of Oshkosh tank transporter trucks. The contract involves nearly 100 Oshkosh 1070F trucks, and is understood to be worth around £250,000. The object is said to be twofold - to provide additional safety both to the driver and to other road users. The project is based on the Eaton VORAD EVT-300 Collision Warning System, for which RTL is the UK distributor. This is a radar-based product, which has already been adopted by various other UK operators, including some of the major oil distribution companies and passenger transport operators. The vehicles in question are based on an Oshkosh Truck Corporation eight-wheel drive purpose-built military tractor unit, powered by a 700hp 18-litre Caterpillar diesel engine. They are capable of carrying a 72-tonne Challenger tank. RTL also offers its own specialist telematics systems.
