Map24 streamlines Web mapping with AJAX
AJAX technology (m.logistics, issue 22, Software Update) is continuing to filter into the online digital mapping world. One of the latest suppliers to announce support for it is Map24, a specialist in interactive route planning, town maps and proximity searching, which has now released AJAX API (application programming interface) for its products. It should help developers integrate these more seamlessly into their Web sites. AJAX stands for "Asynchronous Javascript and XML", and takes in a range of Web technologies to speed up and streamline the interaction between Web pages viewed in browsers and the servers that create and deliver them. Map24's API also encapsulates existing Map24 Web services, which provide back-end services such as address searching and routing. Chris Wallett, UK managing director of Mapsolute, the company behind Map24, says the AJAX capability will enable developers to offer "a truly interactive and dynamic map-based experience".
