Remote device management continues to be a key theme in the mobile data market, and the latest supplier to announce a range of solutions is Datalogic, which has released two new software tools for developing applications more easily and managing devices remotely.

One of them is the Datalogic Mobile Director Enterprise software suite, which is said to work with all current Datalogic Windows-based mobile computers including the Datalogic Jet PDA, Viper-Net pistol-grip Windows CE terminal and others.

The system include a Windows service application, Application Server, which enables IT Managers to find Datalogic Windows-CE devices, identify them in terms of type and model, and monitor device-dependent variables such as the number of trigger pressures or the amount of time the device has been in use.

There is also a remote device configuration system that allows scheduled software and configuration updates.

The other new release from Datalogic is Mobility Developer Assistant, a rich application programming interface for wireless application development. It aims to help developers to create applications for its Windows CE range of mobile computers, allowing them to transfer applications created for one kind of mobile computer to another without additional porting costs. It is said to be suitable for non-developers.
