More information is filtering out on the same-day tracking service introduced by Royal Mail, which was featured in the last m.logistics. When we closed for press for that issue the systems provider had not been named, but we now know that one of the key companies involved is CMS Global Technologies.

Its Mobile Worker solution is installed in each vehicle, and uses integrated satellite navigation and GPS tracking to capture and report on the vehicle's position every minute.

CMS has also developed the Web portal interface for Royal Mail, and is hosting the Web site through which senders and receivers log on and see the location of documents and other time-critical goods.

The system as a whole provides online booking and payment facilities for deliveries across the UK, and also provides proof of delivery to the sender in near-real time, using signatures captured electronically on drivers' PDAs.
