Faster, smarter Dynafleet launched by Volvo
A faster and more capable version of Volvo's Dynafleet range of telematics and tracking systems is being launched this September, and will be available from December. The truckmaker appears to be keen to match the expanding capabilities of third-party products with its long-established in-house system. The in-vehicle hardware itself has been updated, and features more memory and a faster processor than before. It is based on an ADR-approved platform, which means that companies transporting dangerous goods can now use Dynafleet. It offers mobile Internet access via GPRS, and also has provision for connecting to external units such as a laptop and handheld computers and barcode readers. New functions include geofencing (automatic detection of the vehicle's position within a given geographical area) and "driver time justification" - a system by which drivers can account for non-driving time such as loading, unloading, cleaning and refuelling. An unusual feature is the provision of an "e-learning module" for both the Dynafleet system and driver training. There is also a dedicated freephone help line, and start-up registration of all vehicles can be done online. Dynafleet continues to be offered in three versions, which are now called Perform, Perform & Locate, and Operate. We hope to bring you more information about the detail of the system following its launch at the IAA motor show in Hanover.
