Navig8 satnav for BlackBerry users

BlackBerry mobile computer and email devices provided to corporate customers by BT Mobile are now available with built-in real-time navigation from Apello. BT, relatively new to the mobile market, is apparently hoping to bolster its position by offering what is seen as a leading-edge satnav solution.

Apello's Navig8, part of its Wisepilot family of navigation products, uses Drill Down Server technology from deCarta, the company that used to be known as Telcontar, to deliver continuously updated maps to mobile units.

Customers who sign up for the BlackBerry 8700 will have the option to add Navig8 mobile navigation to their subscription.

DeCarta says its DDS system is attractive to content providers because it allow them to customise their offering with proprietary content, real-time traffic information and unique branding.

It says its DDS platform already processes more than two billion mapping and routing transactions per month for Google Local, Yahoo! Local, Ask.com other leading Internet, mobile and telematics customers.
