Orange pushes AppSwings mobile application enabler
Mobile phone network operator Orange is hoping to encourage more corporate users and local authorities to give a mobile dimension to their software applications by supporting the AppSwing mobilisation product range. The two companies have signed a partnership agreement. AppSwing's flagship AppServer middleware solution enables mobile workers to access Windows-based enterprise applications seamlessly from mobile devices such as Pocket PCs, Smartphones and BlackBerry handhelds via a standard browser interface. It pulls off this neat trick by dynamically converting application interfaces to HTML in real time. As AppSwing puts it, this allows "slices" of the application to be "re-factored" for delivery to the browser of smaller Web-enabled handheld devices. According to Orange Business Services partner director, Suzy Edward: "AppSwing's technology fits well with our aim of providing end-to-end solutions for our business customers." She adds: "The work AppSwing is doing is opening up a tremendous opportunity to local authority and corporate IT departments that need to support an increasing variety of wireless devices and remote connections for their employees."
