Package approach underpins Unitechs latest handheld launch
Unitech, which claims to be the world's third-largest manufacturer of rugged PDAs, is hoping that by bundling an extensive software suite with its new HT660 handheld unit, it will be able to differentiate the model from rivals. The device does however have plenty of appeal in its own right. It is a lightweight PDA-style handheld (in fact its weight is put at just 330 grams). Essential features include an Intel XX processor, XX of memory and XX of memory, and the units runs under Windows CE 5.0 Core. Other features include an integrated laser scanner, 36-key luminescent keypad and a quarter-VGA colour touch screen. Communications options include 802.11b/g wireless networking and Bluetooth. The rating for dust and water resistance is IP54. There is also an optional gun grip for use in scan-intensive applications, particularly in warehouses. As for the software, it includes the company's MCL rapid application development tools, auto installer, Wi-Fi site survey tool, backup utility, server management and a utility to set up scanning functionality. All in all, says Unitech, the message is that this unit is quick and easy set up and use straight out of the box.
