Ruggedised tablet PC from CMC
Swedish on-board computer specialist JLT is now offering an advanced ruggedised Field Tablet PC alongside its in-vehicle range, and both types of hardware are offered in the UK by CMC Mobile Computing. The JLT8403 is a full Windows XP-based tablet PC, with a daylight-viewable 8.4in resistive active matrix touch-screen display. It can be built round either a hard disk (XP Professional) or a flash disk (XP Embedded). The processor is a Transmeta Crusoe 800 MHz unit with 512 KB of cache memory, and the standard storage capacity for the hard drive version 20GB. Other features include wireless connectivity (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G/GPRS), hot-swappable battery, dust and water sealing to IP65 standard, and an operating temperature range from minus 20 deg C to plus 50 deg C. The system is said to have been tested to withstand multiple drops from 3ft on to concrete. Options include a vehicle docking station to allow easy on-board use. For those wanting a full on-board computer, CMC is offering three models from JLT's latest range, with displays of 104in, 12,1in and 15.1in respectively. All are available with a choice of processors up to Intel Pentium M running at 1.4GHz, and up to 1GB RAM, along with either hard disk or flash disk media, and high-resolution resistive touch-screen.
