Satnav for hire from TLS
Customers hiring commercial vehicles from TLS Vehicle Rental could be able to opt for in-vehicle satellite navigation as an optional extra in future. The company has mounted a trial in its Midlands branches, where TomTom 700 satnav systems will be available to all customers. The 700 is a variant of the 710 model currently offered in the UK. It is a portable dedicated satnav system, with a range of features such as a Bluetooth wireless connection for linking with a mobile phone. If the trial proves a success, it will be extended to all 26 of the company's UK branches. According to TLS marketing director Sean Welham: "We believe that there is a demand for SatNav from customers simply because many of them are hiring a van to drive to locations they have never been before. SatNav makes the job much easier." He says the benefits are expected to appeal equally to people booking online through the company's Van2Go Web site and business users, who are said to make up the majority of its customer base. TLS Vehicle Rental has one of the UK's largest commercial vehicle hire and rental fleets. It has more than 25,000 vehicles at 26 locations across the country. It has recently been disposing of operations involving larger vehicles, and concentrating on the market for vehicles of up to 7.5 tonnes.
