Speed camera data from Tele Atlas now
Speed camera information is now available with the digital mapping provided by Tele Atlas. The development comes hot on the heels of a similar announcement by Navteq (m.logistics, last issue). Initially the new data is available for mapping in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Other countries are expected to be added later. Tele Atlas is taking the information from RoadPilot, a UK-based company that specialises in speed camera information and alerting systems. To ensure that the data remains current, it is offering monthly updates to users. The company says its maps can include temporary speed restrictions at roadworks, and adds that because the underlying map data is very precise, it can even indicate which side of a dual carriageway the cameras are monitoring. The data is being pitched primarily at businesses developing in-car and portable navigation applications.
