Two-dimensional scanning growing steadily - report
Businesses in the transport, mail and courier sectors are likely to make increasing use of two-dimensional imagers over the next four years, according to a study by VDC, a market research organisation in the data collection industry. It says 18.5 per cent of all portable data terminals will use 2D imagers by 2010. It also said that the number of handheld 2D scanners is likely to grow annually by 25 per cent until 2010. The study picks out Hand Held Products as a particularly strong player in this segment of the auto-identification market, reporting that the company's rugged mobile computing shipments are growing at a faster rate than the overall market. Alongside HHP's Dolphin range of hardware, the company is also responsible for Adaptus, a performance standard for data collection applications, which is used by third-party suppliers as well as Hand Held itself. Hand Held Products says 2D imaging is also proving appropriate for applications in areas such as field service and maintenance, as well as manufacturing.
