Multimap, Britain's leading online mapping service supplier, has taken what could be a decisive move into the mobile mapping market. It says it can now offer customers resources such as maps to their nearest outlets through mobile phones.

As an example, when customers visiting a Web site are viewing a map for to the company's nearest outlets, it will now be possible to include the option for them to click on a mobile icon and sending the map directly to their phones.

People will also be able to text a short code to locate their nearest outlet for a given product or service provider, and receive a personalised map in return.

Multimap has developed the new capability in association with 2ergo, a UK company which is described as a global convergent communication specialist. It offers a range of interactive and multi-channel communication solutions using mobile messaging, fixed-line telecommunications and internet technologies.
