Salvesens Secureseal tracking system wins commendation
The RFID-based trailer tracking system implemented by Christian Salvesen earlier this year (m.logistics, issues 18 and 19) was a runner-up in the RFID Breakthrough Awards this November, when it was one of four companies short-listed for the Best Pilot award. The system uses active RFID tags on each trailer to report its position and other information automatically whenever it is arriving at or leaving a depot. It has also been linked with a wider-ranging tracking system. Secureseal developed the SecureLocator RFID-based product, while specialist ASL has provided enhanced tracking capabilities. So far we understand the implementation has extended to about 750 trailers in Salvesen's industrial division, but its use is likely to be extended to more of the fleet in the next wave of the roll-out.
