Satnav and automatic location for digital pen users
It had to happen - mobile workers using digital pen technology to record and transmit job details can now benefit from the same satellite-based location and navigation resources as those using mobile computers. Destiny Wireless, which markets the Anoto-based Digital Pen and Paper system in Britain, has launched a complete GPS-based location and navigation kit to go with the pen system. Ironically, to take advantage, the worker has to have a PDA or similar mobile device as well as the digital pen and special paper used for input forms. Usually the pen technology has been sold as a replacement for more elaborate mobile computers. However, the combination means workers can keep on using familiar pen-and-paper input methods, gaining a paper as well as digital record of activities, at the same time as benefiting from advanced resources such as route instructions to the next job. According to Destiny chief executive Edward Belgeonne: "For many businesses, operation depends on being able to quickly respond to customer demand. The combination of Digital Pen And Paper and GPS brings a unique and fuller toolset to business forms processing."
