Satnav that finds a filling station when youre running low
How do you fancy having a satnav system in your vehicle that warns you when your fuel level is getting low, and automatically tells you the location of the nearest filling station? It's just one of the potential applications cited by Johnson Controls for what it is calling its Bluetooth Mobile Device Gateway - a standard for integrating products such as satnav with the vehicle's built-in electronics systems. US-based Johnson Controls has also announced a "joint development relationship" with satnav leader TomTom, which takes advantage of its new system to add more value to TomTom GO products. Another example Johnson cites as a possible benefit from the system is identifying a nearby restaurant and automatically dialling it up to make a booking - although this perhaps assumes lifestyle habits less familiar in Europe than in the US. Other developments are expected to include use of Johnson's voice recognition technology to enable drivers to issue verbal commands to their TomTom GO device.
