Tracking add-on for Microlise users
If you're a fleet operator using the Fleet & Distribution mobile computing suite from Microlise, but you didn't opt for vehicle tracking in the original specification, you can now add a vehicle tracking module to the system. You just need to be using one of the company's Mobile Data Terminal (MDTs) to provide the driver interface. The new product is called SofTrac Mobile Data Terminal Automatic Vehicle, and is designed to run in background mode on the terminal. The only additional hardware required is a GPS receiver, which can be linked to the terminal by Bluetooth or serial cable. The company says the system is aimed squarely at clients who already use MDTs for proof of delivery/collection or mobile workforce task management, and offers them real-time tracking of their fleet at little additional expense, and without the need to hard-wire a separate tracking device into the vehicle. SofTrac can also be combined with last mile satellite navigation, again running as a background application on the MDT. This provides the driver with a visual map and voice commands to direct him or her to the next customer location.
