AppSwing and Ubisys in pen computing initiative

Digital Pen and Paper, the technology that uses computer-enabled pens to capture handwritten data in the field, is being championed in the UK by a new partnership involving AppSwing and Ubiquitous Systems.

Destiny Wireless is already closely associated with the Swedish Anoto digital pen technology platform that underlies the system, but Ubisys is also a specialist in this field. Its working arrangement with AppSwing, a mobile technology specialist, is expected to bring the concept to additional users in both public and private sectors.

AppSwing says its contribution will be to save users the need to introduce what it considers "invasive connectors" that might otherwise be needed to integrate the pen input into their existing back-end systems, as well as avoiding the need to modify application code.

The company's AppServer software solution provides access to applications using wireless devices such as Pocket PCs, Smartphones and BlackBerry handhelds.

Other partners of Ubysys in this field include InfoStrata Solutions, which specialises in business solutions powered by Microsoft's SharePoint technology, and Swedish-based XMS, a long-standing Anoto partner.
