Real-time traffic information has been added to the free UK-based online route-planning service offered by Map24, the subsidiary of German-based Mapsolute. The company is taking traffic information feeds from ITIS to provide the service.

Traffic data is overlayed on the Map24 portal, allowing users to view proposed routes against the background of potentially problematic traffic conditions. By hovering over an icon, such as the traffic symbol denoting roadworks, they can view the type of problem and take steps to re-route their journey.

Traffic information is updated every four minutes.

We understand that the traffic information is not yet included in the mobile version of Map24's service, Map24 Mobile, which was launched earlier this year, though presumably that remains a possibility.
