Wi-Fi access for those tougher tasks
If mention of wireless routers makes you think of the little box sitting on your cupboard or hanging on your wall, take a look at the one in our picture and think again. This new device from Symbol, the AP-5181 Access Point, is what you might be using in a harsh, outdoor environment. It's built to withstand wind, rain, lightning, extreme temperatures and power surges. And if that's not enough, there's an optional heavy-weather mounting kit designed to protect the unit from windblown debris at velocities of up to 130 miles per hour. The dual-radio unit is mesh-capable, allowing for the creation of self-assembling, self-healing, flexible outdoor wireless networks. It's designed to be easy to manage remotely with Symbol's Wireless Next Generation (Wi-NG) architecture. The company says it's intended for use in transport yards, loading bays, distribution centres, refinery sites and airports.
