Faster, more reliable Dragons (
An upgraded family of Dragon handheld laser scanners launched by Datalogic is said to beat all previous read rate records by offering not one but three alerts. The devices use the company's patented 'green spot' alert system, which has been enhanced for the new range. In addition to two 'good read' green LEDs, which are located on the top and bottom of the device and are displayed when the read is valid, a further green spot appears on the actual barcode. The company says this makes it ideal for guaranteed verification in noisy or low-light environments. The new Dragon family is said to have been designed for the toughest environmental conditions. It can withstand a two-metre drop and can operate down to minus 30 deg C, and has a dust and water ingress rating of IP64. Datalogic says up to 32 Dragon devices can be connected to the same base station - which it says compares with an industry average of seven devices; and up to 255 guns can be used in a network of 16 base stations with seamless roaming. All the Dragon family's components have a built-in multi-interface including RS232, Wedge, Wand and USB, and share the same set of cables with the other Datalogic handheld readers.
