Keyboard unshackles label printing from the PC
A neat and unusual 'PC-free' approach to barcode label printing has been launched by Barcoding.co.uk. The SOLO device looks just like a self-contained keyboard, which you connect directly to a barcode printer. Actually it's a form of dedicated stand-alone computer, and comes complete with its own LCD panel. You also get software from Barcoding.co.uk for generating labels on PCs from templates, and these are transferred to the device prior to use. Labels can incorporate barcodes, images, TrueType fonts and symbols, and are simply selected from the keyboard for printing. The company says printing labels is so simple that staff can be trained in a matter of minutes. SOLO can be supplied as a complete package, with an option of a desktop version or higher-specification industrial model.
