O2 launches remote worker and asset monitoring

A remote asset management and lone worker monitoring scheme has been launched by O2 Airwave under the name Airwave Locator.

The company says it is aimed at all public safety organisations including police and national 'roamers' who need to know the whereabouts of people and assets.

Users need to be equipped with GPS-enabled terminals, but no other specialist software or hardware is required to activate the system, which is fully managed by O2 Airwave. There is no capital outlay for equipment and minimal administration, O2 says.

Where Airwave Locator is rather clever is in that it works by interacting with GPS-enabled radios already connected to the Airwave service. The company says this means it can provide location information to within approximately 10 metres.

Information is displayed to users on a screen overlaid with UK mapping at a scale of 1:10,000. Users view the information via a dedicated Internet portal using a standard browser, and can access it either from their office or whilst on the move.
