PDA with integral scanner
Opticon PDAs with integrated barcode scanners are being offered in the UK by Barcoding.co.uk, the auto-ID specialist. The company is pitching them as affordable alternatives to dedicated scanners or ruggedised PDAs. The range includes versions incorporating Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and mobile GSM/GPRS communications, so a single device could handle the functions of computing on the move, scanning and communicating back to base. The operating system is Windows Pocket PC, and features include a Secure Digital memory expansion slot. The device uses Opticon's own laser scan engine, and the package includes a docking station and protective pouch.
