More sophisticated scanning options have been added to a new version of the DS Mobile USB scanner from Pentax Technologies Europe. First seen five years ago, the DS Mobile range brings extremely compact portable scanning capabilities to mobile workers.

The new DS Mobile 600 version supports rapid, high-resolution scanning and improved quality. Its 24-bit colour engine offers 600dpi quality scans (up to 9600 dpi with software interpolation), and the bundled software is said to ensure high-quality scanning and simplify the management of documents and pictures.

It includes DSmobile SCAN software, which allows scanned documents to be saved automatically as Adobe Acrobat format files. There is also an updated edition of PageManager, now in version 7, which enables users to scan and organise digitised files and to view, edit, send and save them in a variety of formats. A TWAIN driver can be applied to control and adjust details and settings.

The DS Mobile 600 is compatible with the new Windows Vista operating system, as well as with Windows XP, 2000, ME and 98SE and MAC OS X 10.3 or higher.
