Southern Water to track 500 vehicles
In a major roll-out by Southern Water, the company has chosen the C-track system from DigiCore as the basis for a bespoke telematics-based tracking system for 520 of its service vans. It will cover operations over a wide area that includes Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The company says it sees vehicle tracking becoming an essential element of its operational management process, contributing to greater fleet efficiency and enhanced control of mobile assets and workforce. The system will be used to optimise job allocation and streamline workflow, allowing the company to reduce unnecessary vehicle mileage and react more quickly to customer needs.
Southern Water plans to link the vehicle tracking capability with other third-party back-office systems such as scheduling and job management, and says DigiCore's C-track server-based system lent itself well to this approach. The appointment of DigiCore represents a step in a £2 billion environmental improvement programme currently being undertaken by Southern Water. The ultimate objective is to achieve business and operating efficiencies, which in turn will help it keep customer service up and bills down.
