Push mobile management for couriers

Courier Exchange, the UK-based online freight exchange for the express courier market, has given a formal launch to CX Mobile, the mobile data system it has been developing in recent years.

The system targets owner-drivers who need to manage their business whilst out on the road. Using a GPRS-enabled handheld computer, they can secure and manage accounts on the road; capture and remit proof of delivery details in real time with signature; post goods to move; look for backloads; and receive bookings in real time.

The system is designed to integrate fully with the online Courier Exchange service, which is normally accessed from desktop PCs.

CX Mobile is said to work on all major mobile phone networks. Typically the user would need a PDA such as an M2000 from Orange or an XDA 2i from 02. This harnesses the latest 'push' technology so that information is actively relayed to the mobile unit when needed.

It adds £7.50 to the standard 'automatic notifications' fee to exchange members, who may also have to pay network charges for the device. A version for non-members is also planned.

Users include Courier Exchange's Owner Driver of the Year, Darren Brennan of DSB Couriers, who says the system 'frees me completely from an office base and gives me an opportunity to plan a work schedule while on the move.'
