Slimmer, smarter RFID/Wi-Fi tag
The latest AeroScout RFID/Wi-Fi tag for asset tracking systems introduces a range of enhancements, including a more streamlined and flatter shape, and low power consumption. These devices combine an RFID tag's ability to be read and written to (and to store data about products and their movements) with conformity to Wi-Fi (802.11x) wireless networking standards. This means when the tags are attached to assets or products, either on board vehicles or in fixed premises, they can be monitored via standard Wi-Fi networks. The new T3 model, developed from the previous T2, is credit-card shaped, which is said to make it particularly suitable for tracking people (it can be clipped easily on to a standard badge clip). It has enhanced battery performance (up to four years' life is promised), and a built-in motion sensor intelligently conserves battery life in the field. Other features include a built-in 'choke-point' mechanism to improve reliability at doorways and gateways and in enclosed areas; an advanced tamper-proofing mechanism for security and theft prevention; two call buttons for alerting and status reporting; an optional on-board temperature sensor; data telemetry capability through an external serial interface; and certified non-interference with other devices and Wi-Fi data.
