Siemens comms roll-out for Norway appoints O2 Airwave
The Norwegian government has appointed Siemens, the communications giant, to handle a turnkey contract to provide a public safety radio network for the country. The first users will be the Norwegian fire, police and health services. Siemens will set up, operate and maintain the network, and will also provide control rooms for the system, in this case working in conjunction with Frequentis. Siemens in turn has appointed O2 Airwave to provide a consultancy service for the network. As reported in our last issue, O2 is the supplier chosen to provide wireless communications for the English and now Welsh ambulance services. O2 Airwave specialises in secure TETRA-based communications. Siemens is due to complete the rollout of the first part of the network in the Oslo region this September. Eventually the network will be nationwide, providing a single, secure infrastructure allowing exchange of information and coordination between the Norwegian fire, police, health and other emergency services.
