Oldest transport company saves with modern telematics
The Shore Porters Society, which claims to be the oldest distribution and removals company in the world, says that within a week of installing an Internet-based vehicle tracking system for its fleet it had saved 40 hours of driving time a week, and it expects that figure to rise. We haven't been able to determine how many vehicles this figure is spread over, but the company regards it as significant. Shore Porters is using the Fleetstar-Online telematics solution from Cybit to provide an Internet-based vehicle tracking system for its fleet. Sean Simpson, one of the partners, says other benefits include better responsiveness to customer pick-up requests, ability to manage employees more effectively, and significant cost benefits from its insurance company. The Shore Porters Society was established in 1498 in Aberdeen, and initially operated around north-east Scotland as general carriers and removal contractors. It now also works for fine art collectors.
