Wessex Water has chosen DigiCore's C-track vehicle tracking and fleet management system to manage the repairs and maintenance section of its field service staff. The system has been fitted in 86 vehicles.

An unusual aspect of the implementation is the use of large plasma screens in the office, allowing staff to monitor the whereabouts and status of the mobile service teams easily. The organisation says this will enable it to monitor resource availability and control the work allocation process better - which in turn should lead to reduced operating costs and improved customer service levels.

Wessex Water says it chose the server-based C-track system for because its open-systems architecture compared well with other leading vehicle tracking products. It particularly valued the system's ability to integrate with other third-party reporting and management systems.

Later the system could be extended throughout the company's field service operations.
