East European mapping from Navteq
Full-coverage digital mapping (all navigable roads) for a group of central and eastern European countries has been announced by Navteq. They are Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. The company says this means it can provide road network mapping from the Baltic Sea in the north all the way south-west to the Adriatic Sea. These five countries have a combined population of over 67 million, Navteq says, and the new maps will give drivers access to over one million kilometres of road network. Thirty-seven city areas are covered at Navteq's highest coverage level, which is called Detailed Coverage. Perhaps not surprisingly, the company reports 'strong consumer interest in navigation systems' for these countries. Navteq has also announced its first availability of digital map coverage in India. This covers a population of more than 53 million and includes over 64,000 kilometres of road for the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and the roads connecting these cities.
