Fastest mobile impact printer?

The fastest mobile impact printer on the market - that's the claim being made by TallyGenicom for its MIP 480 vehicle printer. It replaces the existing MIP 360 model, and can print at 480 characters per second. The company says this is up to four times faster than comparable models and reckons the super-fast speed makes the unit particularly suitable for printing delivery notes and in similar applications, minimising transaction time and streamlining the business process.

Integration features are impressive. Bluetooth connectivity has been added to the old unit's serial RS232, parallel IEEE1284 and USB 2.0 full-mode interfaces. IEEE 802.11 wireless connectivity is optional too.

Technical specifications include a 15,000 hour MTBF (time between failure) rate, a 400 million character print head life, and printer ribbons that are said to last up to six months in typical route delivery printing applications.
