Mobile solution underpins spirits sales drive
Whyte & Mackay, the global spirits company, has installed a mobile field sales system from O4 Corporation in a record 14 weeks to underpin a campaign to boost its brands and market presence. The company owns several familiar brands such as Whyte & Mackay, The Dalmore Single Malt, Isle of Jura Malt Whisky, Glayva Liqueur and Vladivar Vodka, and decided to bring distribution of its brands in-house, hiring its own sales force to target 140,000 on-trade UK outlets. The O4 mobile solution has been rolled out to this new 80-strong UK field sales team. Using GPRS-enabled PDAs, it helps them with journey planning, then takes them through an in-call process, capturing details on each outlet and customer. They can then create a tailored branded solution for each one. The system provides a complete customer history, and allows orders to be routed directly to the wholesaler, as well as dealing with orders for point of sale materials.
Marketing support is also built into the system, providing tasting notes, for example, and even delivering video presentations. The salesperson can also use the system to develop promotions such as whisky sampling evenings, creating a diary of events. Once the call is complete, the data is synchronised with the central server after each call, ensuring immediacy of information.
